Dentures
Smile With Comfort and Confidence
At Princeton Dental Group, we believe everyone deserves to smile with pride, including patients who wear dentures. We create custom dentures that look natural, feel comfortable, and are designed specifically for your unique needs. Whether you’re replacing a few teeth or an entire set, our goal is to restore your ability to speak, eat, and smile with confidence.
What Are Dentures?
Dentures are removable, natural-looking replacements for missing teeth. There are two main types:
Full Dentures
- Used when all natural teeth in the upper or lower jaw are missing
- Conventional Full Dentures: Placed after the gums have fully healed (usually several months after tooth removal)
- Immediate Full Dentures: Placed the same day teeth are removed; may need adjustments during the first few months as your mouth heals
Partial Dentures
- Used when some natural teeth remain
- Attached to a metal frame that connects to your existing teeth
- Fill the gaps left by missing teeth and are a removable alternative to dental bridge
Caring for Your Dentures
Just like natural teeth, dentures require daily cleaning to stay fresh and prevent bacteria buildup. Here’s how to care for them properly:
- Handle with care: Clean your dentures over a soft towel or a sink filled with water to avoid breakage if dropped
- Brush daily: Use a soft-bristled brush to gently clean all surfaces, avoiding harsh scrubbing that could damage the material
- Rinse after meals: Quickly rinse dentures to remove food particles and prevent staining
- Use the right cleanser: Avoid abrasive toothpaste or harsh cleaners; instead, use mild dish or hand soap, or an ADA-approved denture cleaner
- Keep them moist: Store dentures in water or a denture-cleaning solution when not in use to prevent warping or cracking
- Maintain oral hygiene: Gently brush your gums, tongue, and any remaining teeth daily to keep your mouth healthy
When to Call Us About Your Dentures
- If your dentures break, crack, or no longer fit properly
- If you experience irritation, soreness, or changes in your bite
- If it has been more than six months since your last dental checkup
Ill-fitting or damaged dentures can cause discomfort and lead to oral health issues, so it’s important to have them adjusted or repaired promptly.
